Long Island offers some amazing shopping venues. Nassau County has five regional malls: Roosevelt Field Shopping Center in Garden City, Broadway Mall in Hicksville, Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, and the Mall at The Source in Westbury. Suffolk County offers shopping at four regional malls: Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington Station, Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, Huntington Square Mall in Huntington, and Westfield Shoppingtown South Shore in Bay Shore. The region also boasts two discount outlet centers: Prime Outlets at Bellport and Tanger Outlets in Riverhead.

A number of other retail mainstays dot Long Island. Century 21 Department stores established a location in Westbury several years ago. Century 21 has been a popular store in Downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn for some time. Fortunoff, an upscale department store, has its main store in Westbury, a Backyard Store at the Smithaven Mall in Lake Grove, and a clearance center in Garden City. Macy's, JC Penney, Saks, Lord & Taylor and a number of other major retailers all have Long Island locations. More than 1,000 neighborhood and strip shopping centers serve the regions. Independent shops in quaint downtown shopping districts are also common.

Antique shops are popular in Long Island's smaller towns and villages. In Nassau County, Port Washington, Manhasset and Locust Valley on the North Shore offer small antique enclaves. In western Suffolk County, residents and visitors can go "antiquing" on Montauk Highway, from Bay Shore to Montauk. On the North Shore, Huntington Village and St. James both boast about 10 antique shops apiece. On the North Fork, more than 15 antique shops can be found on the road from Jamesport to Orient Point. In the Hamptons, there are more than 70 antique shops from East Moriches to Montauk.
