The Economic Development Agency's main goal is to promote development that can be sustained and that will create high-paying jobs, expand the tax base and improve quality of life. Six initiatives are leading the agency's priorities: promoting high-tech, high-skilled industry; promoting tourism in the county; reclaiming Brownfield, or abandoned industrial, properties for reuse; revitalizing downtown areas; facilitating affordable housing; and coordinating other special projects. Included under this department is the county's Industrial Development Agency; Office of Housing and Intergovernmental Affairs; Planning Department; Sports, Entertainment and Tourism Commission; and the Economic Development Resource Center.
